Murchison Falls National Park
Uganda’s largest national park (3840 Sq km)protects a beautiful portion of African savannah bisected by the mighty River Nile. A variety of unique habitats and lots of superb birds make a visit to Murchison Falls National Park, a must for every birder. The birding experience here is greatly enhanced by the abundant wildlife and scenic landscape, not least the spectacular falls after which the park is named.
At the park, there are regular launch trips to the bottom of the falls, after fine game viewing and bird watching. Boat trips to Lake Albert delta provide the best chance in Africa for sighting the majestic Shoebill. Chimp tracking in Budongo forest en route to Masindi. Game drives on a good network of roads. The Nile itself hosts one of Africa’s densities of Hippo and Crocodile populations, and dazzling variety of water birds including the World’s most accessible wild population of the rare Shoebill.
Accommodation at the park includes Paraa Lodge with bandas and privately run campsite, a basic campsite at the top of the falls, two lodges within the park and one outside it
